Founded in 2002, BluOpal ® Consulting is led by two principals, Bruce Kawahara, from Des Moines, IA, and Michele Roden Spruill, from Alexandria, VA. Together with clients, they design and implement solutions that utilize their experience in consulting, coaching, and learning. When needed, they create solutions utilizing affiliate consultants with expertise in organizational development, training, and business development. Bruce Kawahara is co-founder and principal of BluOpal ® Consulting. For over 15 years, Bruce has been a vice president, director, business consultant and leadership coach serving industries such as healthcare, mortgage banking, financial services, insurance, airlines, and government. Bruce's business experience includes functional expertise in training and development, sales performance, executive coaching, competitive intelligence, and organizational development. His greatest business strengths come in creating sustainable solutions that combine current business issues, planning, operations/systems alignment, and people performance. His greatest personal strengths come through his ability to facilitate thought into planning and action and to interact authentically and directly. His powerfully wise presence reminds clients to reach for the end goal in thorough and potent ways. He focuses on building the capabilities of the organization through the development of each individual. Bruce completed coach's certification at The Coaches Training Institute (CTI) and has been designated Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC). He is former Co-Chairman and Vice President of the Iowa Coaches Association, a chapter of the International Coach Federation. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Iowa Hospice Organization. Originally from Hawaii, Bruce weaves the appreciation of having lived in a variety of cultures and geographic areas into all areas of his life. He is dedicated to his family and recognizes the importance of life balance while honoring a strong drive for achievement. Bruce's strong desire to "give-back" shows in the extra mile you see in all projects from BluOpal. Michele Roden Spruill, principal and co-founder of BluOpal ® Consulting, has owned consulting and coaching firms for more than 14 years, motivating clients to expand their achievements in business. Michele's business expertise is established in leadership development, team development, small business ownership, and visual merchandising. Her clients include a diverse group of executives, entrepreneurs, financial planners, managers, and business owners in industries such as healthcare, retail, coaching or consulting, non-profit, insurance, and banking. At BluOpal ® Consulting, Michele co-designs coaching, consulting, and learning solutions for organizations. Her greatest business strengths come in designing comprehensive coaching and leadership solutions tied to specific business results through intentional action plans. Her greatest personal strengths come from her natural ability to awaken the passion in clients to overcome limiting beliefs and successfully meet business and personal challenges. She is known for being authentic, caring, and yet direct and honest. Michele earned the designation, Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) through The Coaches Training Institute (CTI). In addition to her coaching certification, Michele completed an entrepreneurial leadership training program and a yearlong development course in Co-Active Leadership at CTI. She also completed the Executive Leadership course at the National Defense University in Washington, DC. Michele draws upon her experiences as a community leader, participant, and volunteer to enroll people in something larger than themselves. She loves to travel and explore new places and people.
